diy: summer scrub

Above is a fresh batch of scrub that I mixed together in less than a few minutes today! It is too easy not to share and it only takes four ingredients.  I wanted an energizing scrub that I could use in the morning, rather than the lavender scrub that I like to use in the evening.  The scent of orange is always energizing and mixed with the coconut oil it makes for a delicious scent and leaves the skin with a healthy glow.  This mixture is also nice after multiple days in the sun when the skin needs a little exfoliation.  Add ingredients in order on label below with the largest portion being sea salt, then top it off with coconut oil. Last, add about 30 orange drops and stir with a butter knife.

  5. Sorry Rachel, I didn't measure. It's best to add until you get the texture you like. You could try 1/2 cup salt, 1/3 cup sugar, 1/4 cup coconut oil and about 30 drops of orange. Depending on if you like sugar scrubs or salt scrubs more, I would add more of that ingredient.

  11. Hi Whitney, I like to buy my essential oils at Whole Foods, but you can get them at any health food store. Also, I believe some drug stores are starting to carry essential oils.

  18. When you say coconut oil, are referring to the kind you cook with? I have seen other recipes and they use it in oils and scrubs.

  19. I have a severe allergy to coconut and almonds. I don't even want to touch coconut oil, just in case. Is there anything else I can use?

  20. Where do you get the coconut oil and the orange drops? I have no idea where you buy essential oils.

    1. www.edensgarden.com is the best place for pure essential oils and also priced well because they sell direct to consumers. I had bought some from HEB and had a horrible reaction.

  22. Just made this scrub and LOVE it!!! I bought my coconut oil from Target in the cooking oil section and my orange essential oil from HEB in the organic section.
Hope that helps for those that don't have access to a Whole Foods grocery store!

  24. I was wondering what the shelf life is for the scrub. thanks!

  25. Sounds great, but I thought that orange shouldn't be used on the skin if you plan on being in the sun within 24 hours. Is this different because it is diluted?

  26. does this need to be kept refrigerated?

  27. Great recipe and I'd love to give these as Christmas gifts! What's the shelf life and does it need to be stored in the fridge?

  28. Would any other kind of oil besides orange work just as well with this? Suggestions?

    1. Hi Hannah,

This particular scrub was made in the summer and I wanted a citrus/fresh scent- but, you could use any scent you'd like.

    1. No, I just use raw sugar & most of the times get the sea salt from health food store bins.

  31. O.M.G this was so simple and is fantastic! I made three different scrubs and this was by far the best recipe out of the three and the easiest. Thank you, Andrea from Indiana

  32. Why the salt? This is the first scrub I have seen with salt in it and I know salt is drying so I am concerned about using this on my dry hands (although I suspect it would make a nice substitution for hand soap since salt is cleansing...)
    THanks!

  38. I just made some of this with organic extra virgin coconut oil, sea salt, raw sugar, and lemongrass oil. So refreshing. The measurements stated earlier were good for one half pint jar. And i added about 4 tablespoons more coconut oil. Rinse and towel after use vigorously. My hands are so soft now.

  39. I bet you could use olive oil too, but it wouldn't have quite the same texture since coconut oil is a solid at room temp. You'd want to adjust how much you add.

  40. I noticed that this is a salt and sugar scrub, my question is can you use all sugar

    ReplyDelete
  41. How stupid ... you post a recipe with no quantities? Then say you don't know? don't waste my time

Although, I must reiterate that this scrub does not need a recipe. You can make it to your liking following the steps above in this post...
