traditions

As the days get shorter, and the weather gets cooler, I begin to start my annual fall traditions. Pressing cloves into oranges {like above} until my fingers ache, has always been one of mine. The finished product makes your house smell delicious.

And if that doesn't interest you one bit, you can always keep your house smelling spicy by simmering water with cloves, a few orange slices and a cinnamon stick to leave your house smelling simply divine.

Do you have any favorite fall traditions?

  2. I really miss playing in the leaves during the fall. I also enjoy brining out all of my sweaters. Love your blog and I'm so glad I found you. Stop by today for a slice of San Francisco...

  3. I do the same thing every year when Fall and Winter come! I've only used oranges, but love the idea of lemons as well! Gorgeous little photo!

  4. I carve pumpkins. Is it against the rules in Boston to sit a lit pumpkin on the brownstone stairs? I've noticed no tacky lawn furniture, so I am assuming there are rules around here.

  10. Ha!! This completely reminds me of childhood! My fingers would get so sore!! I may have to try it again. I typically make a huge batch of cocoa mix when the temps start hovering around the 50s and it lasts all the way through to February!

  11. I've always loved this look and tried it for the first time last year. It smells amazing! Do you display them in a special way?

  12. The clove/citrus combo must smell amazing! I made mulled wine last year with cloves, cinnamon sticks and oranges and it was yummy and smelled great. I love to carve pumpkins in the fall, but I'm no artist. They always look ridiculous, but cute.

  14. Oh I am definitely going to have to try this-- I bet the scent is really lovely!

My favorite fall tradition is going to our local orchard. They serve the BEST apple cider donuts and the market area is filled with the most lovely aroma of apples and other fresh fruit. Plus they have a great pumpkin patch from which my little one can pick his own!
